Prerequisites

Before installing Hanergy, make sure you have the following:

  • Home Assistant (HAOS or Supervised)

    Hanergy runs as a native add-on. Docker standalone is also supported for HA Core installations.

  • Solar production sensor

    An entity in Home Assistant that reports your current solar production in watts (e.g., from your inverter integration).

  • Grid import/export sensors

    Entities reporting how much power flows to and from the grid. Typically provided by your smart meter integration.

Installation Steps

Install the Add-on

In Home Assistant, navigate to Settings → Add-ons → Add-on Store. Click the three-dot menu, select Repositories, and add:

Find Hanergy in the add-on store and click Install. Enable Show in sidebar and click Start.

Map Your Energy Sensors

Open Hanergy from the sidebar and go to Settings. Map your Home Assistant energy sensor entities:

  • Production: Your solar inverter power sensor (e.g., sensor.inverter_power)
  • Grid Import: Power drawn from the grid (e.g., sensor.grid_import_power)
  • Grid Export: Power sent to the grid (e.g., sensor.grid_export_power)
  • Consumption: Total household consumption (optional, derived if not set)

Add a Device

Navigate to the Devices page and click Add Device. Select the device type (Dynamic, Fixed, or Deferred) and map the Home Assistant entity that controls it.

For example, map your EV charger's current control entity as a Dynamic load with a minimum of 6A and maximum of 32A.

Set Priorities

Go to the Priorities page and create a priority entry for your device. Set the surplus threshold (minimum watts required to activate) and the setpoint cap.

The engine will activate this load when surplus exceeds your threshold and deactivate it when surplus drops below.

Activate a License (Optional)

Without a license, Hanergy supports 1 device and 1 priority. To unlock 2 devices and 2 priorities for free:

  1. Register at cloud.hanergy.app
  2. Generate a free license token
  3. Paste the token in Hanergy Settings → License

After initial activation, Hanergy works fully offline. No ongoing internet connection is required.
